Measures against the removal or alteration of markings:
Accurate and comprehensive records for all marked SALW
within their territory:
The Ministry of Interior runs a central electronic database for information sharing which is able directly to receive and forward information on all legally traded and possessed weapons. The database is constantly updated to include any changes in possession status. All weapons under investigation are also entered into this database of they are to be confiscated or used as evidence in criminal proceedings – whether they are lost, stolen, or embezzled – aiming at their identification in the case they are tracked down. The database records the path of each arm/weapon from its importation to its final legal holder.
All entities involved in SALW transactions are required to keep records for a minimum of ten years.
Measures taken for undertaking traces and responding to tracing requests:
Operational Informaton Exchange:
The central electronic database facilitates SALW information exchange with other authorities in and out of Greece.
