National laws, regulations and administrative procedures:

Provisions on firearms and ammunition marking have been lacking in the current Arms and Ammunition Act. However, provisions ensuring the standardised marking and identification of firearms at the time of manufacture, import and export will be incorportated into the amended law to bring it in line with the SADC Protocol on the Control of Firearms, Ammunition and Other Related Materials, Articles 5(3)(g) and 9.

 

 
 
 


National Marking Practices:

SARPCCO member countries have agreed to mark their firearms in line with Chapter 3 of the SARPCCO Standards Operating Prodcedures (for the implementation of the SADC Protocol).

Accurate and comprehensive records for all marked SALW within their territory:

Namibia has established a computerised Central Firearms Registry. Plans are underway to extend this system to all regions of the country. During the period under review, the Government of Republic of Namibia purchased twenty-one computers with printers for the Central Firearms Registry.

 
 
 


Measures taken for undertaking traces and responding to tracing requests
:

The Government of United States of America will assist SADC Members States including Namibia with the firearms marking machines. Each country will receive two marking machines. SARPCCO member countries agreed to mark their firearms in line with chapter three of the SARPCCO Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

Operational Informaton Exchange:

Namibia has a history of cooperation with neighbouring countries, SADC States and other subregional civil cooperation partners.

Needs and Request for Assistance::
Namibia is in need of financial and technical assistance with regard to marking, tracing and recordkeeping.
