National Marking Practices
Zambia requires licensed manufacturers to apply an appropriate and reliable marking on each weapon as an integral part of the production process.
Marking at the time of import:
Marking of SALW in the possession of government
armed and security forces:
The marking of Armed Forces and Police SALW consists of the producer’s unique numbering.
Measures against the removal or alteration of markings:
Accurate and comprehensive records for all marked SALW
within their territory:
The Armed Forces and Police hold complete inventory lists of all weapons in its possession. This identifies the exact location of each SALW.
Measures taken for undertaking traces and responding to tracing requests:
This is contained in the Firearms Act and Regulations. National Measures have been put in place for tracing SALW ammunition through manual record tracing system.

On 16th December 2009, Zambia received a PIN Marking Machine from the Regional Centre for Small Arms and light Weapon (RECSA) and is expecting to receive another one through an arrangement with SARPCCO.
